The Digital Dance Lab will launch its activities in autumn 2019. In partnership with the RQD (Regroupement Québécois de la Danse) and the New Media Department at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, VGCS is creating a space for exploration, reflection and experimentation that is open to artists, performers, designers and cultural workers interested in integrating digital technologies into their process.
The Digital Dance Lab was created in response to a need in the dance community to better define and critically comprehend the issues facing artists in the digital era and their impacts on artistic and professional practice.
The objective is to facilitate access to technologies and specialists who design them and to create a situation where individuals are given the resources and the time to explore their interest in integrating digital tools into their work,.. The Digital Dance Lab aims to become a veritable incubator where encounters between artists, designers and engineers (and attendant discussions, exchanges and sharing of expertise) lead to concrete experimentation with digital tools, free of the constraints of having to produce a performance. It will be an incubator for forging a creative as well as critical spirit as regards the use and role of digital tools in dance.
